Gateway Community Services - Crisis Lines

Program Description

Gateway offers a free phone service for youth who may be experiencing a crisis. On weekdays from 8am to 5pm, please call 1-517-351-4000 and after 5pm and on weekends please call 1-517-882-7217. Callers also receive information and referrals based on their specific request for additional resources. All services are free.

Crisis Line is designed for adolescents who may be experiencing a crisis, including potential runaways, current runaways, and youth experiencing tension in the home. Additionally, parents, friends, or anyone concerned about an at-risk youth may use these services.

PARENT HELPLINE is for parents who are experiencing difficulties or struggles with parenting. In addition, any person may call with concerns about a child who is at risk for abuse and/or neglect. If a child is determined to be in immediate danger and the Helpline counselor has the necessary identifying information, a report will be made to Child Protective Services.

    Uniqueness

  • 64 of Michigan's 83 counties do not have any shelter specifically designed to handle runaway youth. When a youth calls this line, we can connect him or her to the nearest youth shelter. This makes Crisis Line the only centralized means in Michigan for runaway adolescents to be placed in contact with the nearest shelter specifically designed to help them.

  • At a client's request we will contact a parent(s) and pass along messages letting them know that the adolescent is safe.

  • You can also contact the National Runaway Switchboard at 1-800-RUNAWAY.
