Development and Marketing Associate
AmeriCorps VISTA Position


Position Summary:

Gateway Community Services, which provides housing, counseling and support for homeless and troubled teenagers in the Ingham, Clinton and Eaton County Region, has an exciting full time opportunity for a creative self-starter with excellent organizational and time management skills to coordinate and execute a development and marketing initiative.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Work in conjunction with the Executive Director and Board of Directors to set fundraising priorities, marketing strategies and to plan, organize and execute special events.
  • Prepare press releases, program outlines and related publicity materials and promote awareness of Gateway fundraising events.
  • Oversee budget and record keeping for the events.
  • In conjunction with the Executive Director, plan and engage in solicitation of board and non-board member contributors and coordinate donor recognition activities.
  • Participate in development-related functions such as marketing, design/preparation of print materials, event logistics and post-event follow up based on individuals and office needs.


  • Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Relevant experience in marketing and/or fundraising and event planning
  • Computer proficiency
  • Driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Good interpersonal skills and good written and oral presentation skills.


  • Compensation:

    Full-time VISTA members are provided extensive training, a $9,996 a year stipend, health insurance and a $4,725 education allowance (or a cash award of $1,200) at the end of the service term.

    Crossroads Direct Care Worker

    Position Summary:

    Under the supervision of the Director of Programs, the Direct Care Worker will be responsible for the supervision of client activities in the homeless youth shelter, assisting case managers in the development of case plans, supporting and assisting clients in their efforts to meet case plan objectives (i.e., education, employment, and independent living skills), and evaluating clients progress.

    Essential Job Functions:

  • Present a professional, courteous, efficient appearance to those parents, clients and members of the community who have contact with the agency.
  • To be a cooperative, positive and an effective team member, whose behavior and actions are supportive of co-workers and the administrative policies set forth by the agency.
  • Supervision of youth (ages 16-21) in the transitional living shelter; strive to enhance the milieu environment of the shelter and assist clients in doing the same.
  • Teaching and modeling independent living skills.
  • Assisting clients in meeting their case plan goals.
  • Strive to enhance the milieu environment of the shelter and assist clients in doing the same.
  • Evaluating client progress and behavior.
  • Attending weekly staff meetings, individual and group supervision, and required training events.
  • Providing crisis management over the phone and face to face.
  • Other job related duties as assigned by the Director of the Homeless Youth Program.


  • Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma with college course work in Social Work, Psychology, or Social Sciences preferred. Equivalent work experience considered.
  • Experience working with high risk youth.
  • Experience in a child placing or child caring institution is helpful.
  • Ability to work cohesively with a diverse client population.
  • Ability to be flexible and work weekends and overnight.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must have a valid Michigan Driver’s license and reliable and insured transportation.
