"Laura (counselor) has given me good advice about how to deal with my anger." - A 14 year old in Gateway's Violence Prevention Program for teens in crisis who moved from out-of-state to live with an aunt The situation there was tense and intervention was needed to prevent the situation from escalating.
Gateway Community Services' Violence Prevention Program (VPP) began working with schools and community organizations in Ingham, Eaton, and Clinton Counties in 2003.
The goal of VPP is to promote peaceful, thoughtful, and non-aggressive means by which young people can learn to channel and communicate anger and frustration.
Uniqueness - There is no charge to participate in the Violence Prevention Program.
- The VPP is offered in both four and either week sessions in order to suit the needs of the youth and the organizations we partner with
- Groups are held outside of traditional school hours.
- Gateway's VPP works successfully in a variety of settings such as schools, youth and teen organizations, teen parent groups, community centers, and mentoring and diversion programs.
