Why I decided to go into social work:
My initial plan was to go into the teaching field. I had a chance to work as an Assistant Director for a homeless shelter, which caused me to change my mind. I was able to see firsthand what other people go through on a daily basis, that I take for granted. I love helping people and finding ways to help others. I think it is crucial that anyone that enters this field have compassion for others.
The most rewarding thing about working at Gateway:
The most rewarding part of working at Gateway Community Services is the ability to work with youth on-one-on. It is inspiring to see a broken down youth come into our program, then we (our team) help that youth make a better life for themselves. Being able to take something from nothing is powerful.
