Previously, he was the Senior Development Officer for the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute.
He served as Assistant Secretary of State and Deputy Secretary of State from 1977 to 1994 for Secretary of State Richard Austin and also worked as administrative assistant to the Senate Majority Leader.
Dennis has also been a member of the Board of Directors of St. Vincent Catholic Charities, the Governor Frank Murphy Memorial Museum and the Foundation for Haslett Schools. He also directed the formation of the Michigan Historical Museum Foundation and served as its Chief Financial Officer.
